Welding Taster Class

Looking to dip your toe into the world of welding? Or maybe you’ve never thought about welding at all, but you’re looking for a fun, out there, Friday night. Either way, our Friday night Welding Taster Class is the way to go!

It’s a quick, super hands-on, 3-hr class that covers a ton of material; not enough to go and do any of it on your own, but enough to give you a pretty good sense of what welding is all about, whether for your job or for your curiosity.  Plus you’ll get to make a cowbell, and as Christopher Walken always says, “gOtta HAve more COWbell.”

You’ll use a 6,000° flame torch to bend and melt steel, then a plasma cutter that’s basically straight out of a James Bond movie to cut steel, and finally a 12,000° electric arc MIG welder to weld everything together! A bit more exciting than going to see whatever the latest sequel is, no?

Class Details:  This class runs for 3 hrs, usually 7-10pm on Fridays. Cost is $95 for one person, $160 for two people.  Starting in July 2020, there will be a COVID PPE charge of $15 (to cover extra cleaning and leather gloves to take home). Total $110 one person, $200 for two ($90 each add’l person). Instructions here for signing up two people (first make sure there are two spots available).

Prerequisites: This class has no prerequisites, though you should be comfortable around loud noises and sparks and not squeamish with power tools. You should also wear long sleeve 100% cotton or wool shirt and pants (no synthetic melty stuff) and all leather or canvas shoes (work boots, cowboy boots, vans all good, running shoes with synthetic melty stuff or clogs bad). Bring reading glasses if you need them. Other than that, I’ve got all the materials and safety gear. All participants must be 14 or older (minors must sign up with a participating adult).

Standard Clothing: You will be required to wear long sleeves and long pants, both made of 100% cotton or wool, and all leather or canvas shoes (Vans, Converse, work boots, cowboy boots all good; ballet flats, clogs, running shoes, all bad).  No synthetic melty stuff.  Please bring reading glasses and something to tie your hair back if you need either.

Refund/Rescheduling Policy: We hope you can make the class, but things happen.  If you need to cancel, we can refund your money 7 days ahead of the start of the class (minus a $25 registration fee).  You can reschedule the class 7 days before the start of the class.  There are no refunds or rescheduling after that 7 day window.
