Boy Scout Welding Merit Badge

BSA Welding Merit Badge Class

Come get your welding merit badge in one day!!! (plus time for your homework).

This class is not difficult, but will require some homework beforehand to make the most of your time.  We’ll teach you (or your Scout) the basics of welding safety, welding technique, and then we’ll weld.  We’ll also cover jobs out there in the welding and metalworking industries and, if you’ve done your homework, you’ll be done with the requirements in one day.

This class will be taught by Matt Jones, who besides founding Molten Metal Works, is also an Eagle Scout (4/1995).

Class Requirements: Participants will be required to wear long sleeves and long pants, all cotton material, and wear all leather or canvas shoes. No melty synthetic stuff.  Jeans and a flannel shirt, plus hiking boots are great.  Ages 14 and up.  Parents will be required to submit a signed completed waiver for each child participating.  Printouts will be available at the shop, or feel free to bring a printed out copy with you (download the waiver here).

Prerequisites: No prerequisites but you should be comfortable with loud noises, sparks, and power tools.

Homework: Please read through the merit badge book in full and complete this worksheet in full.  Link to worksheet.  Print out and bring the work sheet into class filled out.  I will be checking your homework, so do a good job on it (or you’ll have to mail it in completed after the class).

Class Details: (1) 3-hr class, generally 9am-noon, offered 4x per year (fall, winter, spring, and summer). $30 per scout (we offer this class at cost, so this covers all the required materials, safety equipment, etc)

Refunds/Rescheduling: THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT  Since the class is offered at cost, there will be no makeups, reschedulings, or refunds for missed classes.  Maximum of 10 students.  Note about wait lists.
